Founding Faculty Member, Professor Emeritus William Claxton Nash


Monroe Community College mourns the passing of William Claxton Nash, professor of modern languages and founding faculty member at MCC, who passed away on September 7, 2010.

In the late 1930s Bill worked as an Arthur Murray dance instructor. A World War II veteran who served 4½ years in the military, he earned both a bachelor of science degree and a master of arts degree from Columbia University. Before beginning his MCC career, he taught at the Harley School.

Known as an extraordinary gentleman, a dedicated teacher and a seasoned world traveler, Bill developed several ESOL courses at MCC and often tutored foreign students to help enhance their English composition skills. Over the course of his MCC career, he served on many departmental and college-wide committees and was an active member of the American Association of French Teachers, Rochester Chapter. He was promoted to associate professor in 1967 and to professor in 1976. Bill retired the following year.
