Julie White (Student Services Center - DCC) recently presented in Philadelphia at the Research on Women and Education’s 36th Annual Fall Conference: Promoting Equity and Education for Women and Girls through Advocacy, Policy, and Research. Julie presented results from a pilot study, “The Effects of Work-first Policies for Women Recipients of Public Assistance at Community Colleges.” This study examined the effects of welfare policies on the personal experiences of community college students. Discussion included the potential consequences of such policies on the mission of community colleges in promoting access and the purpose of welfare policies in lessening economic inequality. Research on Women and Education is a Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association.
