Model United Nations 8th Annual Program and Class Underway

The 8th annual Model United Nations class and program are underway!

The Model United Nations program facilitators are currently looking for students who want to take part in an awarding-winning program that develops critical thinking, problem solving and social and communication skills.  This program is unique because:

*  It is student driven
* The course is 4 credit hours
* Students will debate in New York City for one week at the United Nations
* Students will meet and work with students from all over the world at the largest collegiate conference in the world

What is a Model United Nations Conference?
The purpose of a MUN conference is to allow participants to experience international politics and diplomacy in a setting that is very similar to the actual United Nations. Delegates face the difficult challenge of setting aside personal views on a specific topic and accurately protecting the interests of the country represented.

Application Process:
* Students may pick up a brochure and complete the application in full by the deadline date.  Brochures are available in the Campus Center Office, 3-126.
* Students must attend one of the informational sessions listed in the brochure.
* All applications are reviewed by a selection committee, and Students will be notified of a time to interview.
* If a student is selected and accept the invitation to be in the program, two introductory classes are required this semester. The time of the class will be decided by the new applicants, based on schedule availability.
* All selected students will enroll in POS 234 for spring semester.
*  The class/program starts January 22, 2009.

Faculty and staff, if you know of any students whom you feel are good candidates for the program, please have them visit the Campus Center (3-126) or they can go to our Web site for more information (https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/stucenter/modelun/) and to fill out an application.  If you would like us to present this program to your class, please contact the Campus Center at 292-2544.
