Luci Morrill is Retiring!

Luci Morrill will be retiring at the end of the month.

Whew, that was hard to write.  If you did not have the good fortune to work with Luci during her 13 years at MCC, you really missed out on something fantastic.  If you did work with her, then you know exactly what I am talking about.

Luci did have a life prior to MCC.  She worked for the Town of Greece.  I am sure she did a great job there.  I am sure she was as wonderful there as she is at MCC.  Their loss was our gain.  As a resident of Greece though, I must admit that I question their thinking.  They should never have let her loose.

Luci joined the R&R team when she moved to MCC.  She was a quiet powerhouse processing transactions, answering telephones, working the service windows and, frankly, questioning why we did things the way we did.  Managers tend to say we want staff to look at every transaction or process and ask, “Why?”  However, to be honest, having a real live “Why-Person” on staff is a lot of work!  Luci likes efficiency, accuracy and fast turnaround.  She does not believe in “to-do” piles.  Her piles and piles of work are done each and every day, without fail.  I have learned to just get out of her way.

I think you get the picture.  Luci is a woman with a mission to accomplish every single day.

Luci then left R&R for a promotion to the Business and Economics Department.  I know she was loved there because (1) they regularly thanked me for initially hiring Luci and (2) they mourned her exit when she was again promoted to the Provost’s office.

Luci’s last assignment was back in R&R as the Management Assistant.  It was my lucky day.  We had never before had an MA here in the registration area.  It was new territory for all of us.  Luci quietly sat down at her desk and started pumping out the work.  Working hard, proposing new practices, making things more efficient and once again asking, “Why?”

All good things must come to an end.  I was lucky to have worked with Luci as long as I did.  MCC will miss her.

So, before Luci starts her retirement adventure --- please come to the R&R suite to have a slice of cake, give Luci a hug and wish her well.  She deserves it.
