Planning Begins for Downtown Campus Celebrations

Renovation of 321 State Street—our new Downtown Campus—is nearing major construction completion and many are  preparing for our move from Main Street to State Street. There is certainly plenty to focus on this spring and summer, but we are looking even further ahead to the opening and celebration of MCC’s Downtown Campus. Three celebration “tracks” are in their planning stages.

The 321 Countdown Committee is focused on building excitement for the move, planning activities during this spring semester and through September 5, the first day of classes at the new campus. Among the events is a 321 Walk on Friday, May 19—details will be shared in the MCC Daily Tribune. Tri-chairs Dr. Kim McKinsey-Mabry, Kimberly DeLardge and Gretchen Wood are leading a committee specifically focused on creating excitement and awareness among our internal college community—students and employees—for the move to the new campus. Among its plans are opening day activities for students. Committee members include Sherna St. Clair (student), Eunice Bernard, Lisa Ekiert, Julianna Frisch, Matt Lawson, Kristin Sine-Kinz and Hency Yuen-Eng.

All College Days 2017—Thursday, August 31—will be held at the Downtown Campus and provide employees an opportunity to explore and celebrate this beautiful new campus that we have created together. Plans are not yet finalized, but you can expect this to be an “outside the norm” All College Days. As soon as the Marketing and Community Relations Department and the President’s Office have firm details, they will share them with you.

Last (but not least!), the public dedication of the Downtown Campus is set for Tuesday, September 12 (time TBD). This will be our opportunity to celebrate with community leaders and the general public, and thank all those who made this long-held vision a reality. This committee is co-chaired by me and Cynthia Cooper Mapes, and includes Dr. Ann Topping, Toni Custodio, Dan Raimondo, Kristin Sine-Kinz, Adrian Smalls, Irvin Williamson (student) and Anita Manuele.  As plans develop, we will share details with you.

For all of these initiatives, we welcome your input. You may share your ideas with committee members or seek more information from them.

Thank you.
