Jonathon Little receives the Individual Achievement in GIS Award

The New York State GIS Association granted Associate Professor Jonathon Little the Individual Achievement in GIS award for his work developing a "virtual intern" program with the NYS Tug Hill Commission. Jon was honored at the New York State GeoSpatial Summit 2018 on September 25th. In the virtual intern program, students get real-life experience on GIS projects remotely. Kelsey Hurley, a student in GEG 239 (Capstone in Geospatial Technology) taught by adjunct instructor Justin Cole, worked with the Commission on a community resource mapping initiative with the River Area Council of Governments. Using multiple GIS platforms, Kelsey put together an online community resource map, benefiting many municipalities. Kelsey presented her work to the board in May 2018. The pilot program was so successful that there are plans on expanding the virtual intern program in the spring of 2019.
