PAC Center Groundbreaking Today

President Flynn, college leaders and community philanthropists will break ground today on the $12 million PAC Center, MCC’s new athletic, fitness and recreational facility. The 56,000 square foot facility will almost double the size of MCC’s current physical education complex and provide the community and the college’s more than 36,000 students with much needed space for physical educational classes, sports teams, intramural leagues, community wellness programs and individual fitness use.

The groundbreaking ceremony, entitled “MCC’s Big Dig for the PAC,” will be held at 10 am today (Thursday) in the Tent at Lot G. The college community is welcome to attend.

The college has incorporated green building principles, such as water and energy efficiency and recyclable materials, into the PAC Center’s design. When the PAC Center, opens in fall of 2008, it will provide MCC students and the Greater Rochester community with a new venue for healthy living.

An equal amount of public and private funding is needed to build the PAC Center. The Monroe Community College Foundation has raised $4.7 million in private funds to date toward its $6 million goal. In January, the Chesonis Family Foundation pledged to match gifts to the campaign up to $1.5 million. In appreciation of the family’s support, the MCC Board of Trustees named the facility the “PAC Center” after Pamela Ann Chesonis, who is an MCC alumna.

Commemorative bricks are available for purchase to support the campaign and bring it to a successful conclusion. The brick order form is attached below. To support the PAC Center campaign, visit <"
