Rolling for Ryan Foundation Needs Your Help

It takes a community to raise a child and with that said this is a request for your help.  Ryan McPhee is an 8-year-old boy who attended the MCC Child Care Center from the time he was a little baby until he went off to kindergarten. His mother, Jill, works in our Biology Department.  In 1999 Ryan was diagnosed with leukemia.  After a month of intensive treatment at Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong in Rochester, and two more years of follow-up therapy, he was cancer free.

The story should end there, but it doesn’t.

On Oct. 9, 2003, Ryan was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. He was admitted into Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong and began chemotherapy treatments.  Most people will never experience what this little boy has had to endure in an amount of time that equates to almost half his life.

When he was diagnosed in 1999, the McPhee family endured emotional and financial pain that most of us will never touch upon.  Once in a lifetime is too much, twice in a lifetime is unbearable.  Although health insurance covers the cost of MOST of Ryan’s treatments there are several other necessities that insurance does not cover.

The Rolling for Ryan Foundation is asking for help.  The MCC Child Care Center has several “coin jugs” that we would like to place in the offices of the different departments throughout the college.  If your department would be interested in placing a jug in your office area, please contact the Child Care Center and we will be happy to supply one for you.

There are several different fundraisers in the works for Ryan and his family, however, this jug is a very simple way the college community can help.  For more information on how to help the McPhee family visit the Website:   <https://home.rochester.rr.com/rollingforryan>.
