CSTEP Students Attend Medical Conference at University of Rochester

On January 26th , we had a group of future medical school students from CSTEP  attended  a one day conference at the University of Rochester Medical School  entitled “I am Medicine” . Our students were able to meet current medical school students, engage them as well as network with an impressive group. Moreover, the keynote speaker Dr Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, a renowned Neuro Surgeon at Johns Hopkins shared his journey from undocumented status to American Citizen to acceptance into Harvard College . His story resonated with our students in all respects. Dr. Q as he is known,  is an inspiration to anyone persistent with wanting to defy all odds.  We hope to have him visit MCC in the future.

CSTEP is funded through a legislative grant by the New York State Education Department and has been at MCC for over 25 years.  The mission of CSTEP is to increase the numbers of individuals who are underrepresented or economically disadvantaged to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), health and licensed professions. MCC CSTEP students have gone on to pursue Bachelor, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in these fields.  Many have also gone directly to a CSTEP-target field upon graduation from MCC.
