Increased security for social security numbers is being implemented in the Banner (INB Only) Production database. Here are some important notes:
- Students and employees will still be able to log into self-service using their SSN.
- You will still be able to retrieve a person’s record by entering the SSN in the key block’s ID field of Banner INB – but only if you have the proper security.
- The SSN will be masked on all Banner forms unless you have been provided extended security which allows you to view the entire SSN. Only the last four digits of the SSN will be displayed. For example, *****1234.
- All alternate ID’s which equal the person’s SSN will be deleted from Banner. The processing that automatically creates these records will be disabled.
- Because alternate ID’s have been removed from Banner you will no longer be able to view SSN in the ID and Name Extended Search pop-up box in Banner INB.
- Form GUIALTI will allow you to search for a person by SSN– if you have the proper security.
Any requests for Banner security changes should be requested by having your department director submit a Computing Services Request.
