Highlight: The Schools@MCC continue to support students and their success through COVID

The Schools @ MCC continue to support students and their success by clarifying the path, helping students get on a path, keeping students on their path, and ensuring students are learning.  The COVID-19 pandemic has presented many unique challenges for our students, and School Specialists have worked diligently to respond to our students' academic and personal needs.  School specialists transitioned in-person meetings to Zoom and phone appointments and were involved in several calling campaigns to offer assistance and support to students struggling with the transition to remote learning.  Student engagement remains a priority within the Schools. Several engagement events were offered to introduce students to various academic pathways and careers.

Students are eager to meet, and Starfish continues to assist students in connecting with faculty and staff.  Students created more than 2,800 appointments in Starfish during the fall term, an increase from the spring 2020 semester.  Additionally, 20,434 flags and referrals, requiring outreach, were raised for 3,920 students.

In partnership with Advisement and Transfer Services, Advisor Forums and trainings continued throughout the pandemic and attracted new faculty and staff attendees.  To better support assigned advisors, a Distance Advising section was added to the Online Advisor Handbook to assist advisors with scheduling, preparing for, and conducting advisement sessions.

Thank you to the School Specialists; Early Intervention Specialist; and Coordinator, Pathways & Academic Technologies for their dedicated service to MCC students, faculty, and staff.
