Save the Date (April 17): New Land, New Home, New Life: Refugees' Experiences and Services

What do you know about the experiences of and services for refugees in the Rochester area? Rochester has traditionally welcomed refugees, including MCC students, who have had to leave their home countries because of persecution for their ethnicity, religion, political views, or membership in a particular social group. Save the date—Tuesday, April 17, from 3:30 to 5:00 PM in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A) on the Brighton campus--for a panel presentation, “New Land, New Home, New Life: Refugees’ Experiences and Services,” sponsored by the MCC Diversity Council.

Four experts in refugee experiences and resettlement, public education, and health services for refugee families will make presentations, then answer your questions. The presenters are: Danielle Taana Smith, RIT faculty member and Liberian native; Jim Morris, director of Refugee Resettlement Services for Catholic Family Services; Jay Piper, principal of Rochester RCSD School No. 15, The Children’s School of Rochester; and Jim Sutton, director of the Office of Community Medicine for the Rochester General Health System.

Come learn more about people in the Rochester community who are your neighbors, fellow students or colleagues, and potential clients.
