MCC Alumni Hall of Fame Inductee: Clayton Turner '86


The Monroe Community College Foundation’s Alumni Council has selected four outstanding alumni as the newest members of the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame. Jodi Oriel ’93, Hassan Jones ‘92, Gary Squires ’76 and Clayton Turner ‘86 will be inducted into the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame at the MCC Foundation’s 21st annual Salute of Excellence dinner on Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

As chief engineer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) Langley Research Center, Clayton focuses “on some of the biggest technical challenge of our time,” including global climate change and space exploration. Clayton began his career with NASA in 1990 where he served as an engineer on the Lidar In-Space Technology Experiment—remote optical sensing technology used on the Space Shuttle. He also served as assistant branch head, branch head and acting deputy director in the Systems Engineering Competency and Systems Engineering Directorate.

Prior to joining NASA, Clayton contributed to the Rochester business community as the chief engineer for Dynamic Recording Studio. In this position, he was responsible for the technical and artistic recording quality of a wide range of audio and video content that spanned multiple styles and formats. He has received multiple awards including the NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal, two Paul F. Holloway Non-Aerospace Technology Transfer Awards, the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal and the NASA Exceptional Service Medal.

After graduating from MCC with an associate in applied science degree in electrical engineering technology, Clayton earned his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. He supports the Hampton, Va. community by serving as a youth sports coach.

The MCC Alumni Hall of Fame was established in 1992 to honor the outstanding achievements of MCC graduates. There are currently 67 members of the hall of fame.
