Governor Cuomo Directs Flags to Half Staff in Honor of Korean War Soldier PFC Anthony La Rossa

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today directed flags on state government buildings to be flown at half-staff on Monday, Dec. 15, 2014 in honor of U.S. Army Private First Class Anthony La Rossa, who fought in the Korean War. A Brooklyn resident, PFC La Rossa was unaccounted for after the war and his remains were only recently identified. His official burial will also be on Dec. 15 in Farmingdale, New York.

“After far too many years unaccounted for, PFC La Rossa has finally come home,” Governor Cuomo said. “As we lay this brave soldier to rest, I join with all New Yorkers in honoring his service to our nation with gratitude and pride. My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of all service members who remain unaccounted for.”

On Feb. 11, 1951, PFC La Rossa was assigned to Company L, 3rd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as part of Support Force 21. They were deployed near Changbong-ni, South Korea, when their defensive line was attacked by Chinese forces, forcing the unit to withdraw south to a more defensible position. PFC La Rossa was reported as missing in action Feb. 13, 1951.

Governor Cuomo has directed that the flags on all state government buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of and in tribute to our state's service members and those stationed in New York who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
