Governor Cuomo Directs Flags to Half-Staff

Governor Andrew Cuomo has directed that flags will be flown at half-staff on Friday, September 7th to honor a 23-year-old soldier from Oswego, Kyle Rookey, who died in Afghanistan.  He died of a non-combat related gunshot at his military base in Jalalabad on September 2.  He was assigned to the 4th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

"I join with all New Yorkers in mourning the loss of Kyle Rookey," said Governor Cuomo. "We will forever honor the service and sacrifice of this soldier. I send my deepest condolences to his family and friends."

Governor Cuomo has directed that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of and in tribute to our state's service members and those stationed in New York who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
