Professor E. Jethro Gaede to Present at Filling Station: A Faculty Research Presentation Series

On Friday, October 23, 2015, Professor E. Jethro Gaede (Anthropology) will deliver a presentation called “A Stamp Lover’s Research Odyssey: Gleaning New Stories from Our Pictorial Panes.”  This presentation will focus on the subject of cultural stereotypes as portrayed on individual postage stamps and postal covers.  According to Gaede, “My primary intention is to examine how images of the indigenous cultural ‘other have been used to document and depict historical events situated within a hegemonic, western-oriented visual framework.”  Gaede’s presentation will run approximately 30 minutes; it will then be followed by a 15-20 minute question-answer exchange between Gaede and members of the audience.  The event occurs from 12-12:50 in room 8-200.  All attendees are welcome. If any faculty is interested in bringing entire sections of a course to an event, please contact Filling Station creator and organizer Tony Leuzzi at <mailto:aleuzzi@monroecc.edu> .
