CSTEP Students Attend Medical Conferences

CSTEP students from the Biology, Clinical Technology, Nursing and Liberal Arts Sciences departments attended the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) conferences at the University of Rochester and at the University at Buffalo Medical Schools.  These conferences availed students the opportunity to attend professional development workshops, participate in hands-on laboratories exercises and small group discussions with medical and research faculty.  The sessions included conducting physical examinations with patients, suturing wounds, examining specimens from pathology labs, networking, preparing for medical school and for the MCAT exam.

Two CSTEP students, Marcus Wade (LA04) and Sara Llopis (LS02), won the top two awards for their answers on an anatomy quiz given to all attendees.  They competed against students enrolled at four-year institutions, including juniors and seniors.  So kudos to these students and their faculty for a job well done.

The Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) at MCC provides academic enrichment and research experience in order to increase the number of students from underrepresented groups who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in STEM and health-related fields.
