SUNY Student Resource Center Provides Services for Students and Facilities for Faculty

For a number of years MCC Libraries has offered a third service point, the SUNY Student Resource Center (SRC) in the Bausch and Lomb Building of the Rochester Public Library on South Avenue. The lower level of that building is given over to this partnered enterprise between MCC, SUNY Brockport, SUNY Empire State and the RPL/MCLS.

The attractive 14,000 nsf area is intended as a home to our students for off-campus research, providing: librarians and staff dedicated to assist students, plenty of computers; access to the MCC and RPL electronic resources; application software for doing assignments, telecourse materials and viewing hardware; Sunday hours; over 800,000 items of research materials within this library, comfortable furniture and a convenient workspace. MCC Libraries see the SRC as an ideal place for students needing these resources, and they seem to agree, because in the last several months the SRC has experienced a 37% increase in SRC use by MCC students.

The site also has a number of advantages for faculty. There is a large group use room that can serve as a classroom for faculty, a meeting point for students or as a location for an SRC provided workshop.  A projection system and network connection for instruction is available on request. The SRC librarian, Nanci Rosenberg-Nugent, along with her staff, is available to assist faculty and students in the use of the SRC. She is also available for class visits at both campuses to alert students to the benefits of the SRC. To make arrangements for a visit to use the SRC for a class, for a workshop by Nanci, or to reserve the group instruction room contact the SRC directly at 428-8171 or e-mail Nanci Rosenberg-Nugent at HYPERLINK "mailto:nrosenbe@mcls.rochester.lib.ny.us" nrosenbe@mcls.rochester.lib.ny.us .  You can also contact Mary Timmons, our DCC Librarian, and she will be glad to help you in the process. Call her at x-1412 or e-mail her at HYPERLINK "mailto:mtimmons@monroecc.edu" mtimmons@monroecc.edu

We are expecting that hours will be expanded at the Central Library and the SRC to allow for Sunday hours through May and Saturday hours through the summer. Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days for SRC use so this enhancement should be both a benefit to our students as well as the broader community. Current hours include:

Monday and Thursday 9am-9pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 9am-6pm
Saturday 9am-5pm
Sunday 1pm-5pm (through May 23, 2004)

Faculty should encourage their students to use this excellent service point and consider how the SRC might be of help to faculty members. MCC Libraries are striving to provide  the services, resources, facilities and people to assure the success of our students. Please assist us in this process by using all our library service points and encouraging your students to.
