Members and staff of MCC's Rochester AmeriCorps program participated in Friday's United Way/ESL Day of Caring by leading teams of volunteers in a community mapping project. Members were trained as team leaders and coordinated by staff of NorthEast Area Development (NEAD)--including George Moses, MCC graduate and former AmeriCorps member. Volunteers were from Hillside Children's Center and Community Place of Greater Rochester. Each volunteer team was assigned to several city blocks in NEAD's target area to conduct a survey of residential and commercial properties. The resulting database reflecting property conditions and vacancies will assist NEAD in planing community development initiatives.
