Install Windows Emergency Security Updates

Microsoft has issued emergency security updates for all supported Windows versions, to patch the PrintNightmare Print Spooler vulnerability.  It is important to apply these patches to your home and office PCs as soon as possible.

For an MCC PC/laptop being used off-campus:

  • Connect to VPN
  • Click on the Start button (lower left corner of your PC)
  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Update & Security
  • Click on Check for Updates button, then once that completes
  • Click on link Check online for updates from Microsoft Update

New updates may take a long time to apply - in some cases about 2 hours. Plan ahead and take time to schedule your restart for a period of time when you won't be using your computer, such as at the end of the day. This will prevent disruption to your work.  Information on how to schedule your update can be found at www.monroecc.edu/go/techtips.

Technology Services encourages you to reboot frequently and apply the latest Microsoft patches that will keep your system up to date. These Microsoft updates will fix newly discovered security issues, enhance functionality, and help to keep it running efficiently. It is important that you reboot your home PC/laptop to apply these patches.  It is recommended to restart your computer at least once a week.
