Meet Dr. Deborah C. Stamps ’97, MCC Alumni Hall of Fame Inductee


The Monroe Community College Foundation’s Alumni Council has selected three outstanding alumni and MCC’s First Class to be inducted into the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame. Special tribute is being paid to the First Class as part of the College’s 50th anniversary celebration.  In addition to the First Class, Charles Benoit ’84, Dawn V. Borgeest ’76 and Deborah C. Stamps ’97 will be honored at the MCC Foundation’s 22nd annual Salute of Excellence dinner on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Please join the MCC Foundation in congratulating and highlighting the achievements of Debbie Stamps!  Debbie was nominated by Department of Nursing Interim Chair Cheryl Mahoney.

As Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer of Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, Debbie is responsible for managing key Newark-Wayne Community Hospital clinical units and  ensuring system integration of nursing leadership, clinical initiatives and high standards of quality care and service. 

She has been part of the Rochester General Health System in various clinical leadership roles since 1989.  Her professional background includes emergency care, women’s care, obstetrics and neonatal, progressive care nursing and radiology nursing.

Her involvement in the community is also impressive, having recently been awarded the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, 2010 Sojourner Truth Award.  This award is the highest recognition this organization bestows and is a national distinction for her many community activities. 

Dr. Stamps serves on the board of the Rochester-Syracuse Planned Parenthood, is a member of the New York State Organization of Nurse Executives, the American Nurses Association, Chi Eta Phi Sorority and many other professional organizations. 

She earned her certification as a licensed practical nurse from the Educational Opportunity Center, an associate degree from Monroe Community College, a baccalaureate degree from SUNY Brockport, a master’s degree from Nazareth College, completed the Nurse Leaders of the Future program at the Wharton School, and earned her doctorate in education degree from St. John Fisher College.

The MCC Alumni Hall of Fame was established in 1992 to honor the outstanding achievements of MCC graduates. There are currently 71 members of the Hall of Fame.
