Opportunities for Faculty - Deadlines in January and February

Cornell Community College Internationalization Fellowship 2023 - 24

The goal of the Community College Internationalization Fellowship Program is to encourage Community College faculty to collaborate with Cornell University’s world area studies programs and the South Asia Center at Syracuse University to create and implement curricular projects which integrate international, intercultural or global dimensions, and world languages, into community college curriculum. We aim to increase global learning, intercultural knowledge and competence of students at community colleges. These projects could include the development of a new course, a new unit of an existing course, or a service learning component to an existing course that encourages the exchange of diverse perspectives.

Each project must engage with one or more specific world areas. To meet our funding agency’s requirements, projects which engage with Latin America, the Caribbean, South Asia, Southeast Asia, or Sub-Saharan Africa will be given preference and greater curricular development support.

These projects will be explored over the course of one year, with the possibility of an extension of a second year if the project warrants further development. Over the course of the first year, the outreach coordinator will support Fellows by facilitating administrative support, in-person and virtual meetings, and content area resources needed in order to be successful. Individual projects will be funded as follows: $500 for development at the start of the project, and $500 for implementation upon completion.

Application Process

Project proposals are due on January 23, 2023 via email to Kathi Colen Peck, Outreach Program Manager, at ksc32@cornell.edu. Questions via email about the fellowships or the application process are more than welcome.

Fulbright-Hays summer seminar to Mexico: Understanding the Development of a Strategic Relationship (MCC is only eligible for this seminar to Mexico)

2023 Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad program is now accepting applications from K-16 teachers and school administrators through February 9, 2023! The Seminars Abroad program provides U.S. educators in the arts, social sciences and humanities with opportunities to participate in short-term seminars abroad to improve their understanding and knowledge of the peoples and cultures of other countries. In 2023, summer seminars will be offered in JORDAN, MEXICO, and a joint seminar in ARGENTINA and BRAZIL.

Each thematic seminar features educational lectures and interactive, cultural activities specifically designed for elementary, secondary, and postsecondary educators, including visits to local schools and organizations, and meetings with education administrators, government officials, policymakers, teachers, and students. Participants draw on their experiences during the program to create new or to enhance existing cross-cultural curricula for use in their U.S. classrooms and school systems. Sixteen educators participate in each seminar. The Seminars Abroad program covers airfare, room and board, and program costs. Participants are responsible for a seminar cost-share of $750.

The deadline to apply is February 9, 2023.
