Congratulations! Sherry Tshibangu Awarded the 2023 Carmen Powers Legacy Lecture

The Faculty Senate Professional Development Committee is pleased to announce that Sherry Tshibangu, Distinguished Professor of Business and Entrepreneurship, is this year's recipient of the Camen Powers Legacy Lecture.  During her 13 year career at MCC, Professor Tshibangu has embodied the core values of Monroe Commnunity College.  Ever the scholar/practitioner, Professor Tshibangu has implemented various student-centered pedagogies, and in 2019 was selected as the Dr. Wesley Hanson Award for Teaching Excellence.  Outside of the classroom, Professor Tshibangu has been a Fellow in SUNY COIL where she collaborated with students in other parts of the world.  Sherry Tshibangu has served the larger community as a Mentor and Coach with the United Way and as a co-founder a RTST, a Congolese-American charitable organization.

Tokeya Graham, Professor, ENG/PHL, says of Professor Tshibangu, "To be a Black woman academic reaching the highest distinction of her professional career is no small feat. It is my pleasure to benefit from her warm demeanor, expert knowledge, and generous spirit. As we center equity and inclusion, it is imperative that we amplify the voices of faculty who have been historically excluded from the institutional record. I am pleased to be her colleague and her friend. Professor Tshibangu is well-respected for the depth and breadth of her knowledge. She is a collaborative partner who works to create pathways of access for those around her."

Sherry Tshbangu will be presenting her Legacy Lecture on Friday, May 12, at noon.  Room confirmation to follow.
