Gena Merliss' Leave - TCC Transition for Next Year

The Teaching and Creativity Center is excited to announce that Gena Merliss' proposal for Leave for Professional Advancement for the Benefit of the College has been approved by the Board of Trustees. Over the coming year, she will complete two projects while working on her doctorate:

Research and implement an evaluation of the First and Second Year Faculty Series and its impact on faculty practice and student success

Develop an online course for our adjunct faculty about applying teaching theory to practice

These two projects and the doctoral coursework will address a gap in the TCC's current capacity as well as enhance Gena's skills and knowledge as Coordinator.

We are thrilled that Amy Burtner, the Brighton faculty TCC chair, will serve as Acting Coordinator during Gena's leave. Amy has been full-time faculty in the English and Philosophy department since 2008. She coordinates the Writing Across the Curriculum program, and is one of her department's assessment leaders and adjunct coordinators. For the past four years, Amy has led the planning team for the annual TCC's Teaching and Learning conference.

Please join me in welcoming Amy to this role, and in congratulating Gena for this significant opportunity.
