Sherry Tshibangu Selected for the AACC's Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition Award

Professor Sherry Tshibangu has been selected for the American Association of Community College's Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition Award. The award recognizes faculty who demonstrate a passion for the students and the classroom and show a willingness to support students. Award recipients are also engaged in service to the College through committee work. Professor Tshibangu's creativity and ceaseless commitment to teaching and learning are evident in her engaging teaching style and the innovative programs she has designed; programs that not only enrich our student's educational experience but also embolden them to seek entrepreneurial adventures. Professor Tshibangu throws her considerable knowledge of business and business ownership into teaching and mentoring our students and it shows in the impressive list of accolades and accomplishments she has garnered during her time at MCC. This year alone, Professor Tshibangu received the Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Teaching Excellence which is the highest teaching award granted by Monroe Community College. During her sixteen year tenure at MCC, Professor Tshibangu has been an active member of the MCC community linking college and community events with her teaching and consistently broadening the student experience beyond the classroom. Professor Tshibangu served as chair of the MCC Launch your Business! initiative and played a key role in the Everyday Entrepreneur Venture Fund grant totaling $250,000. This initiative supported over 25 current students and alumni by providing funding as well as a business mentor as they complete their degrees and launch their own businesses.

MCC is honored and delighted that Professor Tshibangu was selected to represent the College as AACC's Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition Awardee. Please join us in extending a warm congratulations to Sherry!
