ESOL Voices: Student Spotlight: Yasmin Mussa
Yasmin is an ESOL student who has lived in the United States for three and a half years and was recently reunited with her husband. Yasmin plans to join the laboratory technician program at MCC. In this harrowing essay, Yasmin writes about a friend’s experience with female circumcision. Yasmin is from Somalia. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Somalia has the highest per capita percentage of female genital mutilation in the world, roughly 98%. Click on the pdf to read her story.
