Passing of Registration and Records Clerk Linda Curran

I am sad to inform the college community about the death of Registration and Records Clerk Linda Curran. Linda spent her entire adult life in our midst. From July 1976 through September 1979, she was a Woolworth’s cashier and a student aide at MCC. After earning her associate's degree, she began her MCC career as a Clerk IV in the fall of 1979.

In 1988, Linda transferred from Registration & Records to Admissions as a Clerk II. Three years later, she rejoined Registration and Records, where she became invaluable. To those who knew her only slightly she was quiet and courteous. But her good friends knew better.

According to colleague and friend Donna Burke, counselor, Counseling, International and Veteran Services, Linda loved a practical joke – and forged the kind of nurturing relationships with students that changed their lives forever. An MCC alumnus turned pilot would fly in and take her on trips. A few former student aides owe their ability to navigate through life to Linda—she taught them to drive. She collected money for gifts when student workers graduated and never missed a chance to feed her colleagues. “Everybody who works here has an impact on our students,” said Donna. “Linda was such wonderful proof of that. She was the heart and soul of MCC.”

A 1995 recipient of MCC’s Support Staff Award, Linda spent her last day surrounded by her family along with that tightknit group of MCC women known as “The Ladies of Letchworth.” They did a lot of reminiscing about their camping adventures and talent shows – about the high jinx and exploits, the long history of friendship -- that made their camaraderie so strong. And before the Ladies left, they sang her “Happy Trails,” the song that always ended every trip they took together.

Linda is survived by her sisters Cindy Hinman and Kate Bartholomay, her nephew Trevor Hinman and nieces Allison Hinman, Bridget and Jenny Bartholomay and her beloved dog, Serena. A memorial mass will be held at Guardian Angels Church, 2061 East Henrietta Road at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 13.

Donations in Linda’s memory can be made to the Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport, NY 14450.
