CSTEP hosts STEP students at Shadow Day

On Tuesday, March 24th, CSTEP hosted 13 STEP high school seniors as part of the CSTEP Shadow Day.  STEP students attended classes with CSTEP students and were taken on a college tour led by MCC’s Peer Leaders.  STEP students also participated in a network lunch followed by a panel facilitated by CSTEP students. Professor Gamory (Engineering Science and Physics) joined the event and provided insightful advice to the STEP students.

CSTEP and STEP students were “matched” based on the STEP student’s career interest.  Once matched, CSTEP students identified a core course within their major that they believed would interest the STEP students.  Faculty gave permission to have STEP students attend their class. Below is a list of the CSTEP hosts, the host faculty and the classes that were attended by STEP students.

Many thanks to the wonderful CSTEP students and MCC faculty for making this event a success!  STEP students shared through a survey that this event had a meaningful impact on their lives and that it significantly increased their interest to attend MCC.  Comments included: Excellent job!  A lot more interesting than expected! I am looking forward to coming to MCC.  I can’t wait to come here in the fall.

Funded by the New York State Education Department, the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) seeks to increase the number of historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged students pursuing careers leading to professional licensure or professions in mathematics, science, technology and health-related fields.
