MCC Upward Bound Programs End of Year Awards and Recognition Banquet Celebrates Student Achievement

On Wednesday, May 7th Upward Bound held its annual Banquet at the Diplomat to celebrate student improvement, academic excellence, participation in the program, and our graduating seniors. We are thrilled to have this year’s guest speaker, Melanie Rivera, who is a police officer with the Rochester Police Department and a 2004 Upward Bound alumna. Rivera is also an alumna of Monroe Community College, where she majored in Criminal Justice and then joined the Police Recruit Education Program.

In May 2012, Rivera graduated from Keuka College with a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, while also focusing heavily on her career as a police office in Rochester. Her ultimate goal is to begin teaching part time as an adjunct professor at local colleges and to “give back to the community in ways that programs such as Upward Bound have helped, encouraged, and motivated her to reach her potential.”
