Community groups learn of MCC's Harvard Pluralism Grant

Professor David Day, Anthropology, shared with various community groups the progress he and his anthropology students are making in "mapping" Rochester's religious diversity. Day's ongoing grant from Harvard's Religious Pluralism project aims to create an on-line "map" of America's incredible religious diversity.

Day's addresses to residents of Valley Manor and Brighton's Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church highlighted the work done last spring by students who researched 25 area faith communities ranging from ethnic Buddhist temples to Korean UCC congregants. The grant continues this semester with research on Rastafari, Vietnamese Catholics, Bahai, Russian Orthodox and many others.

Student-authored research can be viewed at www.monroecc.edu/go/pluralism, with links to the comprehensive Harvard site.
