MCC's 23rd Annual McMurry Lecture in Philosophy Features RIT Professor John M. Klofas

Monroe Community College's 23rd annual McMurry Lecture in Philosophy will feature John M. Klofas, professor and criminal justice chair at Rochester Institute of Technology, who will present "This Generation's Challenge: Citizenship and Metropolitan Living." The lecture will be held at noon on Friday, March 7 in Room 8-300 at the Brighton Campus.

Klofas received a Master's degree and Doctorate in Criminal Justice from the State University of New York at Albany. He has worked in adult and juvenile probation programs, as a caseworker in a maximum-security penitentiary and as director of classification for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. Klofas has also published a wide range of journal articles and book chapters on criminal justice management and crime policy as well as other prison and jail issues. He is a founding trustee of Metropolitan Forum, a citizen's group interested in metropolitan analyses and solutions to community problems.

This annual lecture is named in memory of Morland McMurry, former associate professor of philosophy at MCC. For 14 years, McMurry brought his high standard of excellence to the teaching of philosophy. In the classroom, through committee involvement and as a member of MCC's Student Senate, he showed the clarity of thought, the compassion of feeling and the gentleness of behavior that marks the truly liberal mind.

The McMurry Lecture is free and open to the public.
