MCC Web Redesign 2015 – Progress Continues!

For many of us at the College, the “lazy days” of summer are actually some of the busiest days: classes are condensed and a multitude of tasks need to be completed before we jump into Fall. This is true, too, with the 2015 Web Re-Envision Project!

This summer’s work on the Project to redesign the College website covers a number of crucial steps as the team enters the final stage of Phase I:

*  Design – We’ve been translating the approved design and deciding how it will apply to the many areas of MCC’s digital space. For example, how will emails to prospective students match the new MCC Web in their look and layout? How will the look of myMCC fit into this new MCC design suite?

*  Content – We’re finishing fact-checking, tightening the copy, working with hundreds of images, and filling in any remaining information gaps.

*  Programming – We’re taking the approved designs and programming them into working Web pages. As well, we’re building some great new features such as a searchable majors and programs area and more interactive forms. And of course, we’re doing all of this in our new Web content management system, TYPO3, which will make it faster and easier for Web editors across the college to keep their area’s information current.

* Page Build – We’re building hundreds of pages, using our sitemap (aka, the Web content outline) as a guide, and flowing in that new content.

* Testing – Through the whole process, we’ve been checking the quality and the accuracy of the new elements. As we reach the final part of Phase I, we’ll continue to test with the actual targeted audience of prospective students and their families. The last large-scale, pre-launch test with representative users is set for the end of July. Based on previous testing, we’re confident that it will go well, and we’re looking forward to the information we learn so we can make final tweaks and small adjustments before launch.
