Weather-related Closings and Cancellations

The recent snowy weather provides us with an opportunity to review college closing and class cancellation procedures.

There are two different types of College closings:

When classes or activities are cancelled, faculty and students should not come to the campus. All other staff and administrators will report as usual.

When the College is closed, no one is to report to the campus except for designated essential personnel.

In either case, Rochester area news media will be notified no later than 5:30 a.m. The College’s status also will be posted on our Web site.

In the case of evening class activity disruption, the same guidelines apply. The notice to local media will be made by 3:00 p.m.

A daily list of class cancellations is available at <<
https://www.monroecc.edu>>. Use the A-Z Index or Quick Links to access Class Cancellations. A list of class cancellations is also available on a pre-recorded telephone line, 585-292-2066.

Please use these resources to obtain closing information and avoid overloading the phone lines of the college or the local media.

In evaluating whether to close the college, we take many factors into consideration and consult with a number of resources. We take into account road conditions, weather forecasts, condition of campus, etc. However, with all that said, conditions throughout our service area vary widely and we encourage students and employees to make their own individual decisions based on conditions where they are.

Information on the college’s closing protocols can be found in the
2009-10 Catalog and Student Handbook, page 254.
