President's Wednesday Message

Last week, I received a remarkable letter from an MCC alumnus. Dale Atherton-Ely graduated from our College in 1972 and was prompted to write me after reading Tom Hanks’ recent op-ed on his own community college experience. Mr. Atherton-Ely went from MCC to SUNY Albany and had a 34-year career as a high school English teacher in Saratoga. From the quality of his writing, I can only wish I had been in his class. Rather than excerpt the letter, I hope you will read it in full on the blog. He credits his lifelong love of learning to the amazing faculty he had at MCC. We say our College is inspiring every day. Mr. Atherton-Ely's letter—much like the faculty he describes—brings those words to life. Thank you for inspiring our students, every day, every decade.

If you have stories of students who were inspired and found their unique paths to success, please share on the blog.
