Associate Dean of Technical Education


I am pleased to announce that Kathleen (Kate) Schiefen has accepted an appointment as Associate Dean of Technical Education.

Ms. Schiefen launched her career at a family owned and operated business, Schiefen Construction, Inc.  She served the business as a mechanical estimator, accountant, and field supervisor.  She has also been employed at the Monroe County Department of Social Services as an Examiner in Income Maintenance, Human Services.

Ms. Schiefen began her employment at MCC as an instructor in EPA certification classes for the Workforce Development Department.  She became an adjunct instructor in the Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Program in 1988 and a full-time faculty member in 1994.  In 1998, she was elected Chairperson of Applied Technologies.  The Applied Technologies Department is made up of the Precision Tooling and Machining Program, Automotive Technology, and the HVAC program.  She held the position of Chairperson until 2003. 

Ms. Schiefen holds several certifications including the North American Technical Excellent Certified HVAC Technician, and EPA Certification.  She is a member of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges and is the current Advisor to the student branch of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc.

Ms. Schiefen holds a master's degree in adult education from the SUNY College at Buffalo, a bachelor's degree in human resource management from Roberts Wesleyan College, and an A.A.S. in radiological technology from Trocaire College.

Her wealth of knowledge about the College and the community will be a great asset in her new position of Associate Dean, Technical Education.

Kate will begin her new position on July 1st.
