MCC Daily Tribune

Clarification, Apology, and a Promise

Dear MCC Family,

The five Work Groups tasked to recommend plans for the phased-reopening of MCC are well-underway in their efforts. I hope that you'll respond to the Return to Work Survey created by the Employee Experience Work Group. The Return to Work Survey is one tool that the College is using to obtain a better understanding from our employees on your perspective regarding the reopening of MCC. The responses will inform the Work Group recommendations and further the development of our plans to reopen.

I understand the language used in the survey has caused some confusion. For that I apologize and take full responsibility.

Allow me to underscore that no final decision has been made around the Fall 2020 semester. Once we have had a chance to assess our collective feedback and consult with local and state authorities, we will make an informed decision about the College's plans and the Fall 2020 semester.

Again, your feedback is very important. Please respond if you have yet to do so. The higher the response rate is, the more representative the results will be. The survey will close at noon on Wednesday, May 20. This timeline allows for the results to be shared at the Friday, May 22 Town Hall meeting. Here is a link to the survey: Take the Survey. Please note that all of the information collected as part of this survey is completely anonymous.

I would also like to take this opportunity to appreciate and underscore the importance of the work that each and everyone one of our employees is doing while we are working remotely. We recognize that many of our jobs are functioning at a different capacity because of being required to work remotely. Many of us cannot conduct our job functions from a distance in the same fashion as we can when on campus. Because the success of our students means so much to all of us, many of you are finding new and creative ways to push through. For that I am most grateful. The ability of MCC employees to perform their duties fully and remotely due to the pandemic in no way reflects how much your work is valued.

The dedication, commitment and quality of our workforce is our greatest strength. We need all of you to assist the College and our students as we rebound from the effects of the pandemic and New York's on PAUSE order. The College recognizes and appreciates the efforts of all our employees during this public health crisis. These are trying times and you have demonstrated the resilience of our College community in a manner that is nothing short of remarkable.

Thank you for all you do to support each other, our students, their success and MCC.
