MCC Board Recommends Downtown Campus Site, Forum Planned at DCC This Thursday

I am pleased to report that on Saturday, December 10, the MCC Board of Trustees passed a resolution recommending that our downtown campus move from its current location to properties at State Street and Morrie Silver Way currently owned by Eastman Kodak Company.

While this is a project that some have wanted to move quickly, it was more important for us to take our time, do it right, and give serious consideration to every option. We approached every proposal, every meeting, and every piece of paper with the following goal in mindto find a location that we could own, that offers room to grow and expand in the future, that keeps us on budget, and allows us to continue providing a quality education for our students. This location meets those goals.

Given the fact that we have been in our current location for a long time, we gave a great deal of consideration to the option of remaining at the Sibley Building. In the end, it was clear that the Sibley Building alternative would be more costly and less conducive to creating the learning environment that our students deserve.

Even though we have done a lot of work to reach this point, there is still much to do. This initiative is now in the hands of Monroe County and we will continue working with them to complete the process as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I know you may have questions so a college community forum has been scheduled for Thursday, December 15, noon to 1 p.m., in the DCC Community Room, Room 4193. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me or Dr. Otero with any pressing matters.
