New Degree Program Gains Coverage

Several news media outlets reported on MCC's new homeland security associate degree program, which will be offered in fall 2016. John Perrone, director of Homeland Security Management Institute, was interviewed by WXXI News radio and Time Warner Cable News-Rochester. Both reports aired Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Shealyn Stauber, a 2016 Odyssey Academy graduate in Greece, is one of 100 students enrolled in the program. Her interview appears on TWC News. Many thanks to John Perrone and Sheila Manns for facilitating the student interview.

Rochester Business Journal and NewsRadio WHAM 1180 also reported on the program.

The homeland security degree program provides students with a broad understanding of the industry and prepares them to continue their education at a four-year institution or immediately enter the workforce.

Program participants get an overview of homeland security and emergency management in the U.S. The curriculum covers terrorism and terrorist motivations, the role of cybersecurity, emergency response strategies, and tactics for safeguarding critical infrastructures and resources. Some of the courses are offered online.

MCC also offers a certificate in homeland security that prepares individuals for immediate entry-level employment.
