Samson Ushe Passes

I am saddened to inform the College community of the death of retired MCC Professor Dr. Samson Chiwara Ushe.

Hired in 1971 in the Department of Anthropology/Sociology/History/ Political Science, Samson was a respected member of our faculty and a valued member of our MCC family. He was loved by his students, admired by his peers, and recognized for his commitment to education, as evidenced by his winning the Marcus Garvey Award during his tenure at the College.

After 26 years he retired from MCC and went on to teach at Westfield State College in Massachusetts from 1998 to 2002, where he was recognized as an expert on South African affairs.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 23 at West Springfield Curran-Jones Funeral Home in Springfield, Mass., from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society and a local memorial service is being planned for a date in August, the details of which I will pass along as soon as they become available.
