Call for Proposals

The League for Innovation is accepting proposals to present at the Innovations 2007 conference, March 4-7, 2007, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, hosted by Louisiana Community and Technical College System. The Hilton New Orleans Riverside is located on the banks of the Mississippi River, with easy access to everything New Orleans has to offer. The League maintains an open call for manuscripts for its monthly digital publications, Leadership Abstracts, Learning Abstracts, and Innovation Showcase. The editorial staff invites community college educators and scholars to share effective, innovative practices, processes, strategies, and programs with the field through the brief articles (1,500 to 2,000 words) featured in these publications.

Deadline Extended to July 31, 2006

The deadline for application to the Executive Leadership Institute (ELI) has been extended to July 31, 2006. ELI provides the opportunity for potential community college presidents or those in transition to review their abilities and interests, to refine their skills, and to participate in discussions on leadership with outstanding community college leaders from North America.

Preparation Through Technology (Pathways)

The League for Innovation in the Community College and Stevens Institute of Technology invited colleges to join Community College Pathways to Improved Teacher Preparation Through Technology (Pathways), a dynamic collaboration involving community colleges across the country that has proven to be a rewarding and worthwhile endeavor. Eighteen colleges have been chosen to participate in the next Pathways cohort.

Modules Now Available!

WGBH-TV and the League for Innovation in the Community College are pleased to announce the launch of Getting Results multimedia professional development modules for training community college faculty. The modules focus on the teaching of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, specifically in Advanced Technology Education classrooms.

The 2006 Campus Computing Survey will launch later this month (July 2006). The annual Campus Computing Survey is the largest continuing study of information technology issues in American higher education. It remains one of the best sources for data and information about IT planning and policy issues affecting U.S. colleges and universities.

Wisconsin Technical Colleges

A collaborative curriculum alignment initiative that began in 2001 has engaged hundreds of instructors and deans among Wisconsin’s 16 technical colleges in face-to-face curriculum development and improvement discussions. The result? Nineteen newly aligned health care programs simplify life for students and faculty alike. The collaborative alignment process has resulted in improved health care programs while preserving academic freedom. Now students enrolled in a health care program at one technical college are taking the same courses, and achieving the same skills, as students enrolled in the same program at any of the 15 other technical colleges.

Member Spotlight was introduced at the beginning of the 2004-2005 membership year as a new League benefit. Each month, member colleges have the opportunity to spotlight an aspect of the institution to share with other community colleges: a program, an award, a new innovation, and so on. These spotlights are then posted in our monthly League Connections newsletter.
