Employee Support of Snowflake Scholarship Fund Opens Doors for Students

Similar to the snowflakes gently falling outside our windows, MCC employees have come together to create a beautiful view of future success for students through the Snowflake Scholarship.

Thank you to the faculty, staff and administrators who supported the Snowflake Scholarship that was launched by my family and the Monroe Community College Foundation at the annual holiday party in December. The scholarship fund stands at $3,200, including a gift from the Kress-Davis family in honor of MCC’s 1,815 employees.

Because of your generosity, two $1,500 Snowflake Scholarships will be awarded to MCC students during the 2010-2011 academic year. The students must demonstrate unmet financial need, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and complete 15 hours of community service each semester with a non-profit agency.

If you would like to support this new tradition and contribute to the scholarship, please contact the MCC Foundation at any time. Proceeds from community engagement activities, such as a 5K Walk Run and “Inaugural Bike Ride” in April, will also go toward the scholarship. As I noted in December, each dollar donated will ‘stick’ to ours and build an opportunity for students to receive the greatest gift of all: a stellar education.

Students interested in applying for the scholarship should contact the Financial Aid Offices at the Brighton or Damon City campuses.
