Mt. Hope Cemetery: Where Rochester’s History Lives Lecture This Friday

The Leroy V. Good Library (Brighton campus) will be hosting a lecture this Friday, October 30, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Just in time for Halloween, Associate Professor Rick Squires, Collection Development Librarian in our own MCC Libraries, will be speaking on “Mt. Hope Cemetery: Where Rochester’s History Lives.” Come hear the fascinating story of the first Victorian municipal cemetery in the United States. The lecture will be located on the 4th floor of the library, outside of room 2-452.

Rick Squires is a life-long resident of Rochester and was a charter member of The Friends of Mt. Hope Cemetery in 1979.  In addition to graveyards and local history, he’s also a film buff and collector (specializing in the career of horror star Vincent Price), as well as an author.  Rick’s 1995 book "Stern Fathers ‘Neath the Mould" tells the story of fantasy writer H. P. Lovecraft’s family, who are, not so coincidentally, buried at Mt. Hope Cemetery!
