Understanding the Intersection of Gender, Race and Mental Health

On Friday, March 15, 2019 from 8:30 am-Noon, MCC will host its spring 2019 Diversity Conference in High Fall A/B at the Downtown Campus. The title for conference is, "The Intersectionality of Women and Girls of Color and the Impact on Mental Health and Overall Well-Being." This conference will explore the socio-historical and cultural factors that impact the mental health and wellness of women and girls of color. The keynote speaker is Dr. Stephanie Evans, Professor and Chair, African American, Africana Women's Studies, and History at Clark Atlanta University.

There will also be a panel of professionals who will address areas pertaining to the intersectional lives of Black and Latina women and girls, while discussing protective factors and resources available and needed to increase overall health and well-being. This session will contribute to a discussion about how the narratives of women and girls of color can inform school, community, and collegiate-based wellness work on race, gender, and mental health.

This event is free and open to the public and faculty are strongly encouraged to bring their classes. In order to register, please click here.
