Workshop Helps Faculty Develop Holocaust-related Curriculum

About 20 faculty and staff members attended “The Shawl”: A Faculty Workshop co-sponsored by the English/Philosophy Dept. and the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project on June 12. The Workshop was led by Gail Herring Stanger, director for the Philadelphia Center on Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights. Stanger also serves as the educational director and external affairs coordinator for Richard Stockton College of New Jersey’s annual Scholars Conference on the Holocaust and the Churches.

Prior to the workshop, attendees were given copies of “The Shawl,” a short story written by Cynthia Ozick about a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp. The story is known for stimulating classroom discussions within English and Philosophy courses. The video documentary “Auschwitz Memories,” was also viewed and study guides were provided to attendees.

Thanks to Regina Fabbro (English/Philosophy) and Linda Ingraham (Liberal Arts) for planning the event.
