Beginning Today in Starfish: First Progress Survey of the Semester; Recommend to Withdraw Flag

The Starfish Academic Progress Report opens TODAY at 8am and runs through Monday, February 21. This survey will target students in special populations. As with previous Starfish surveys, faculty will receive a link to their surveys via email. The following kudos, flags and referrals will be available for faculty to raise for their students:

  • Keep Up the Good Work
  • Great Participation!
  • Academic Progress (Email Notification Only)
  • Urgent Academic Concern (Outreach Requested)
  • Technology Concerns: Limited Access or Proficiency
  • Home/Family Assistance
  • Tutoring and Academic Assistance

Please note: there are no attendance flags with this survey. Attendance-related alerts and outreach to students are triggered through faculty daily attendance reporting in Starfish. Faculty flags and referrals from the survey will go to a team of Starfish responders for their outreach, and will assist Success Coaches, School Specialists and student services staff in their retention work with their students.

Additionally, the Recommend to Withdraw from Course flag is now available for faculty to raise in Starfish. This flag is not included on the Starfish survey - it can only be raised manually by selecting the student in Starfish.

This flag is intended to be used for students who are no longer able to successfully pass a class. It does not automatically withdraw the student from a class. Rather, once raised the flag will send a message to the student with information on the withdraw process and a recommendation to contact a member of their Success Network (Faculty Advisors, School Specialists, Success Coaches) before deciding on whether to withdraw.

The Recommend to Withdraw flag is available only for full-term classes and only until the withdraw deadline on April 29.

Please direct any questions about the use of Starfish to John Kulak at jkulak@monroecc.edu. Thank you for your participation in Starfish surveys!
