REAL 2 REEL Youth Film Festival at the Downtown Campus #MyStruggleMyProgress

Frederick Douglas said, "If there is no struggle, there is no progress." These words were celebrated on Wednesday, April 4th at MCC's Downtown Campus as over 50 youth and adults from local agencies came together for the 2018 REAL 2 REEL Youth Film Festival. Students shared their own stories of struggle and progress through videos, music, poetry, and art. In addition, attendees listened to the powerful words and inspiring messages of Kenneth B. Morris, Jr., the great-great-great grandson of Frederick Douglass and the great-great-grandson of Booker T. Washington. Mr. Morris is also the Founder and President of the Atlanta based nonprofit Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives.

The participants also heard from a panel of four MCC students who shared their stories of struggle and progress related to continuing their education at MCC. All enjoyed a tour of the campus, lunch, and refreshments!

The program was a huge success thanks to the collaborations between DC Student Services, Admissions, Dean Frater, Mr. Shawn Dunwoody, and Metro Council for Teen Potential.
