The Constitution in September

During the month of September, several exciting events celebrating the Constitution and democracy are scheduled to take place on campus. We hope that you will have the opportunity to join us for one or all of them!

The Constitution Day Committee, a group of representatives from several student organizations (Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, Monroe Doctrine, and WMCC The Fuse), has scheduled several activities as an observation of Constitution Day ( "https://www.constitutionday.com" www.constitutionday.com), a federally designated commemoration of the United States Constitution. The committee will have a replica of the Constitution on display in the Flynn Campus Center Atrium, and a web page will be available on the MCC web site from September 12 through September 19. The Constitution Day Committee has also organized a recitation of the Preamble and a reenactment of the signing of the Constitution, to be held in the Flynn Campus Center Atrium September 16 at 2:00 pm. A Constitution Day panel of speakers will speak on issues surrounding the Constitution September 19 during college hour. The lecture will be held in Monroe A.

The LeRoy V. Good Library will also be taking part in the festivities. The Library is participating in the September Project ( "https://www.theseptemberproject.org" www.theseptemberproject.org ), “a grassroots effort to encourage public events on freedom, democracy, and citizenship in libraries on or around September 11,” as well as celebrating Constitution Day. Please take the time to see the display at the front of the Library, featuring an “American flag” created by the children of MCC’s own Child Care Center.

In addition, the Library will be hosting a lecture September 28 during college hour. The lecture, Balancing the Scales of Justice: The Supreme Court Nomination Process, will be presented by Political Science Instructor Kevin Eirich. It will be held on the 4th floor of the Library, outside of room 2-440 (Faculty Study).

We hope to see you there!
