Meet the "Human Books" of the MCC Human Books Event at the Downtown Campus

The Human Books Event is next Wednesday, April 18th from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Downtown Campus in the 2nd Floor Lounge.

The Human Books Event is an opportunity to talk, alone or in a small group, with some unique people. It is intended to encourage dialogue as a path toward developing intellectual curiosity, empathy, and empowerment through the exploration of new perspectives.

Our Human Books include:

  • Brian Bartlett - A young, gay, cisgender man living with HIV.
  • Katherine Clark - A person of short stature who challenges the worn-out stereotype of the "little person."
  • Dr. Joel Frater - Executive Dean of MCC's Downtown Campus, wwho ill draw on his Jamaican roots to discuss the cultural history of food.
  • Shamika Fusco - One of five black librarians in the Monroe County Library System.
  • Yessica Gamez - A young woman who arrived in the United States as a three-month-old baby, an undocumented immigrant brought here by her parents.
  • Reenah Oshun Golden - A 40-something "Mompreneur" and Poet.
  • Eridan Maeder - A nonbinary, bisexual activist who currently volunteers with transgender youth at Rochester's Out Alliance.
  • Yahoda Miller - A Restorative Justice Educator and the Garden Manager for the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence.

This is a popular event and sessions fill up quickly. Advance reservations are recommended. If you plan to bring a class to the event, we strongly encourage you to have your students reserve a Human Book beforehand at https://libguides.monroecc.edu/humanbooks/
