MCC Upward Bound Shadow Day 2019

November 5 was a day off from high school for MCC Upward Bound students, but it was an exciting day for those who participated in our annual Shadow Day, where students sit in on college classes and learn about MCC's Downtown Campus community.

Our students arrived early and were able to pick up breakfast at the 321 Café. From there, they attended one or two college classes from a selection that included American Sign Language, Criminology, Psychology, and more. Special thanks to the following instructors for participating in this year's Shadow Day: Janet Waasdorp, Michelle Parker, Betty Mandly, Kath Rozanksi, Kara Tierney, Christine Plumieri, Njeru Murage, Dina Giovanelli, Adrian Smalls, and Peter Francione. Students came back from their classes excited and eager to experience another college class as soon as possible.

Our students then participated in a scavenger hunt that taught them about some offerings available to MCC students. They learned about the ROC-It Route, the Single Stop Program, Student ID Benefits, and more. Many were impressed with the Learning Commons on the 4th floor and Fitness Center located on the 2nd floor. Most were not familiar with MCC being a part of the SUNY system and the seamless transfer process. Special thanks to Corinne Shanahan from Student Services for presenting about the different campus offerings at the college.

Students finished the day with lunch from the 321 Café.
