SUNY News -- Colleges Earn High Rankings


Albany- State University of New York Chancellor Robert L. King announced
yesterday that several State University of New York campuses earned high
rankings in three just-released national reports by The Wall Street Journal,
U.S. News and World Report and Kiplinger's.
"These rankings by such prominent national publications prove that the State
University of New York is moving to the forefront of higher education in the
United States and the world," said Chancellor King. 'I am very proud of the
students, faculty and staff at these fine colleges and universities and all the
campuses of SUNY."
The State University of New York at Binghamton was ranked 10th best of
Kiplinger's top 100 public universities for academic excellence and
affordability. A total of five SUNY colleges made the Kiplinger's list
including; SUNY College at Geneseo, #24; the State University at Stony Brook,
#62; the State University at Albany, #67 and SUNY College at New Paltz, #76.
The State University of New York at Buffalo School of Management ranked 41st in
The Wall Street Journal's list of the world's top 50 business schools. Buffalo
ranked 36th among American schools of business.
U.S. News and World Report ranked SUNY Binghamton and the SUNY College of
Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse as two of the Top 50 Public
National Universities offering a doctoral degree. The magazine also ranked SUNY
College at Geneseo as the second-best public college offering a master's degree
in the North. SUNY College at Fredonia ranked 11th in this category.
"The State University of New York has been diligently working in the past few
years to upgrade facilities, improve academic programs and support the faculty
to attract the very best students possible," said State University of New York
Board of Trustees Chairman Thomas F. Egan. "All of this enormous effort is now
being recognized."
U.S. News and World Report ranked SUNY colleges in other areas including:
Fashion Institute of Technology (SUNY) was ranked as the number one Top Public
Comprehensive College in the North. SUNY Colleges at Farmingdale, Cobleskill
and Old Westbury were also ranked in this category.
SUNY College at Fredonia ranked number one as a Great School at a Great Price
for public universities with master's programs in the North.
SUNY Stony Brook and the University at Buffalo ranked 36th and 37th
respectively for Best Engineering Schools at Public Universities that offer a
doctoral degree,

The State Universities at Stony Brook, Buffalo and Albany were also ranked in
the category Best National Universities with doctoral degrees.
The SUNY Colleges at New Paltz, Potsdam, Oswego, Brockport, Cortland, Oneonta,
Plattsburgh and Purchase were also ranked among the Best Universities with
master's programs.
The State University of New York is the largest university system in the United
States with more than 388,000 students enrolled in more than 5,100 courses on
